But if you are sideloading books, Kobo will give you a much better experience. Best you can do is hack the title to include that information and even so, you can't search by series on sideloaded books. This will also show on your My Books in the Series tab. On the book info page it will say something like: On Kindle, you have to sort your collections manually.Īlso, if you have books that show as part of a series in Calibre (say, The Lord of the Rings) when you send the books to Kobo it will recognize them as a series automatically. So if you have a book that is tagged in Calibre as Historical, Mystery, Horror it will be added to the Historical, Mystery and Horror collections on your Kobo automatically. Tags from Calibre can be added to your Kobo to create collections. If you are going to primarily sideload books from Calibre, a Kobo will work MUCH better than a Kindle. Sorry, but the folks posting here are wrong. People say it's easier to sideload books to a Kobo, but the process seems pretty similar to me.Īre there any other advantages to the Kobo or the Kindle apart from the process of actually getting the books onto the device? What exactly is the transfer process like (I've heard things like plugins and plugboards mentioned but honestly don't know what those are)? Is the organization of sideloaded books better on one platform than the other? From what I've read, both can be plugged into a computer to transfer books directly, and both have a proprietary format that is preferred/required for this transfer (kepub and azw I think?). What I'm unsure about is the difference between the platforms specifically when used in connection with Calibre. The current functions of the plugin are: Set/Remove font settings for specific books. This will allow changes on the eReaders that either cannot otherwise be made or will make them easier to do. I have a fairly big library organized on Calibre, and I plan on downloading/acquiring books from publishers and sorting them in Calibre rather than to buy from the Kobo or Amazon stores. The Kobo Utilities Plugin adds extra function to calibre for working with Kobo ereaders. So I'm looking for my first e-reader and I've run into the classic Kindle vs.
